Challenge

The client, a leading cytology lab, required a streamlined and systematic way to organize, handle, and store patient data informatics. Their existing processes for managing diagnostic and therapeutic data were inefficient and prone to errors, particularly in tracking patient blood specimens and managing diagnostic workflows. They needed a Laboratory Information System (LIS) to handle complex patient data, improve documentation, and ensure the secure tracking of patient records throughout the diagnostic process. Akuton was hired to develop a robust, scalable solution that would address these challenges while integrating seamlessly with existing lab processes

Our Work and Results

Akuton Solutions developed a custom software platform tailored to meet the specific needs of the cytology lab. The system allows doctors and lab technicians to input and manage patient blood specimen data after analysis, ensuring accurate record-keeping and data tracking. The software was built using a Microservice architecture, enabling flexibility and scalability while facilitating communication between different services through an API gateway.

You can quickly generate and refine innovative solutions that address your business needs and goals. A downside of working with legacy systems is a lack of uniform code updates and automated testing. Multiple generations of developers had made alterations at AP without clear controls regarding architecture, coding standards, and business rules.

UserRole

Role-based access control, ensuring that only authorized personnel can access sensitive information.

  • Improved test automation and coverage.
  • Enhanced QA and user risk assessment processes.
  • Built a US domestic wires and ACH module to enhance and maintain liquidity options.
  • Developed an ETFs and stock trading module.

Achievment

The system dramatically improved the lab’s ability to manage and store patient data, ensuring regulatory compliance and reducing the time spent on manual documentation. The microservice architecture allows for easy scaling as the lab grows, while the contextual search via Elasticsearch improves the speed of retrieving records. The integration of real-time notifications, role-based access, and comprehensive reporting features further streamlined lab operations, enabling the lab to focus on providing high-quality diagnostic services without technical bottlenecks.

Key Features

  • Dashboard: A centralized view for lab managers, doctors, and technicians to monitor workflows and access data efficiently.
  • Notification System: Automated alerts for important updates, such as test results or patient record changes.
  • Chat System: Internal communication between lab staff for real-time collaboration.
  • Billing and Payments: A comprehensive system for tracking payments related to lab services.
  • Reports: Detailed reporting capabilities, allowing the lab to generate and export reports for internal use or external compliance.
  • Digital Filing Cabinet: A secure and organized system for storing patient records, reports, and diagnostic results. The digital filing cabinet offers easy categorization, search functionality, and seamless retrieval, significantly reducing manual paperwork.
